Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Visitation / Joint Custody - Across State Lines

My daughter is 12 years old. Her dad and I were never married. He has never been a part of her life and that was by his choice. He was aware of the pregnancy as soon as I found out but still chose to not participate or be a part of her life. There was a 2 week period about 5 years ago that he spent time with her but was verbally abusive to her. She still remembers his yelling and screaming and she wants nothing to do with him. I filed for child support and because of this he is now wanting joint custody. He lives in WA state and my daughter and I live in TX and have since before she was born. I recently received a threatening email from him and want to know what my options are.

Use the email as a basis for protective order. Require supervised visitation through a neutral inermediary service. Expensive. He pays. Require a bond for visitation. That ought to put a kink in his plans. I doubt that the AG will do this for you. You might have to hire an attorney. Good Luck.
