Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

visitation

My 11 (almost 12) year old son came to live with me in September. He told his mother that he wanted to live with me and she dropped him off on my door step. Since then, he has told me of many disturbing things that happen in the home-including porn and crossdressing. He does not want to see his mother anymore. How can I get supervised visitation so he will not have to be in her home again? I can not afford a lawyer. Can I file the paperwork on my own?

Re: visitation

You can file any piece of paper at the courthouse at any time. It's a public building. But you are responsible for every piece of paper and every word you put in it - just like a lawyer. What you're asking for is not a simple thing. Maybe you can talk to some lawyers in your area and see if somebody can work out a payment plan for you. It appears that the safety of your child is at stake. If you can't afford a lawyer, then you need to start studying up to have even a snowball's chance to protect your child.
