Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

We would like to wait until the first of the year for our divorce to be finalized, due to tax purposes, but we've already begun the process 9 (as of Aug. '09). It's almost October and we haven't set a hearing date yet. Will the courts allow us to wait until then to finalize?
