Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
My ex wife and I had a terrible divorce several years ago. She accused me of harming my son and kept me from him for a lengthy amount of time. When he was 14 he had a family member bring him to me. He stayed with me for 1 wonderful week. Once the judge found out I violated the temporary order, He issued a permanent injunction against me for family violence. Although my son has contacted me a few times after this, I knew that I couldn't see him. Today he is 18 years old. I have waited a long time for this day. I love my son more than anything in the world and have missed him so much. It is very important for me to establish a relationship with him. Is it Ok now? Does the court retain jurisdiction over him or me now that he is a legal adult? Thank you so much for your time.

We'd want to look at the specific terms of the permanent injunction. Generally, the orders pertaining to a child apply only as long as he is a child. Once he's an adult, he can take care of himself (an 18-year-old can get married, join the Army, or move to New York, and doesn't need anybody's permission) and make his own decisions.
I agree with Mark.
Now that he's an adult he can do what he wants.
He does not have to tell his mom who he associates with.
Generally, the family court orders terminate when the minor child reaches 18.
If you want me to look over the court orders, I charge $2 per minute to do so. You can't beat that price!
