does the beneficiary named in a Will override the beneficiary named on a life insurance policy?

No. The proceeds of a life insurance policy are not part of a person's estate which pass by inheritance through a will. The life insurance proceeds are paid directly to the beneficiary as the payoff of the contract between the deceased and the insurance company.
