Agressive dog

My neighbor's dog killed our cat in our yard. We've been told that the dog has been euthanized but we're still looking into this for confirmation.I just want to know if i can stiill sue these people or if there is anything I can do at all.

Domestic pets are recognized as merely chattel (property). Pet owners are generally responsible for the damage caused by their pets. You certainly have a right to attempt to recover compensation for your loss from the dog's owner. However, unless you can prove other damages, you can only recover the market value of your cat as actual damages. Justice courts (small claims) will charge you about $80 to file you claim. Do the math. The dog's owners may also be in violation of one or more municipal ordinaces. Good luck.
