Apartment Malpractice

I built a house and am trying to move out of my apartment. My apartment complex states they lost my paperwork saying that I had my own refrigerator. I have the receipt for the one I bought and never used one of theirs. They also say they lost the paperwork on what was wrong with the apartment before I moved in. They say I will be responsible for all damages done to it. If they lost the paperwork, why should I be punished? Should I contact an attorney to help me through this?

The paperwork that shows the condition of the apartment when you moved in is far more valuable to you than to the apartment complex. You should have had a copy that you safely kept. It's not the apartment complex's responsibility to look out for you.

How much damages are at stake will determine whether you should get an attorney involved. At this point it's an economic decision, since you can't recover fees that you pay to an attorney to help you with this.
