Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
apartments
My girlfriend lives at an apartment with a one year lease and she when in to give her 60 day notice as stated in the lease. However they are saying she has to stay two extra months because they only let people move out from Aug. 1 to 7th. They say there will be a $3000 fine if she does not stay. NONE of this is in the lease agrement. What should she do?

Re: apartments
If she gave the 60 day notice required by the lease and is otherwise in compliance with the lease, tell them to go pound sand. They cannot impose requirements like this that are not in the lease. Be prepared, though, she may need to get a lawyer when she vacates, to fight it. Be sure to take detailed pictures of the apartment when she leaves to show she left it in good condition and to give written notice, keeping a copy, of her forwarding address
Re: apartments
Follow Sharon Campbell's advice and move out on, or a few days before, the date her lease ends.
She should also report that garbage to the Consumer Protection Div. of the State's Attorney General's office.
Re: apartments
Get it in writing..and you may have other claims..a)fair debt collection violation, b)deceptive trade act..and others..but get it in writing or few will believe it..
