Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
Auto Accident - Dispute of Fault
I was involved in an auto accident today with a 18 wheeler. I wasn't hurt, he just merged into my lane and caused considerable damage to my vehicle. Took the police an hour to arrive on the scene. In the city of Ft Worth, I was told that they don't do formal accident reports if there is no injury . The driver of the semi said he didn't know what happened and claimed to be in the same lane as I was. So fault couldn't be determined by him. I filed a claim with my insurance 5 min after the accident occurred. The other driver refused to file a claim. He then refused to provide me his name. He would only give me the company name and insurance policy information that I was able to verify. The officer had left the scene since he felt his duty was done. I got the license plate # and state. I kept trying to get info from the driver but he still refused to give any to me. I wasn't going to start a fight so I stayed the scene and called in his info I could get and then tried to contact the company he worked for. No one answers. I am no getting worried I will be out of luck. I only keep uninsured motorist and liability, no collision. Should I contact an attorney even though no injury occurred to have someone on my side ? What do I do ?

Re: Auto Accident - Dispute of Fault
An attorney should be able to get the company's attention. You can also file a complaint with TxDOT. Let me know if you need help with this.
