Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
Car Title Transfer
Is there any legal way to have a person change a car title over into their name? I signed the car title and told my friend she would have to change the title into her name, but she has not done so. I have asked her several times but still the car is under my name. Is there any way to make her change the car title? Can I take the car away from her since it is still legally mine?
What can I do. I'm afraid she will get into a accident or get a ticket and I will be blamed because I am the owner of the car. I made a bad judgement when I signed the car title and trusted her to change the title, but what can I do to take care of this situation?
Thank you

Re: Car Title Transfer
Write to the Department of Motor Vehicles and let them know that you've sold the car, who you sold it to, and her address. Also let them know that you've signed the title over to her and, to the best of your knowledged, she's not had the title transferred. That will give you the necessary coverage if she does get into an accident.
I'd send a copy of the letter to her as well. That may prod her into doing what she should do. She may not want to pay the sales tax, and that's why she's holding off changing title.
