citiation for civil suit-cosigner for loan

i co-signed for a $2,500.00 loan for my brother in june /july of 1999. i received paperwork to respond to a citation within ten days. i want to know if i'm still responsible for a 6 almost seven year old loan that i'm just now receiving a citation for. if not do i responde to the citation.

Respond to the citation. When you co-signed, you guaranteed payment on the note. The question is when did your brother default on the note, rather than when the note was first made.

If you don't respond they'll be able to take a default judgment against you for the balance of the note, interest, attorney fees, and court costs.
