Debt Collection

I was incarcerated over 10 years ago and left a credit card with an outstanding balance. I am now being chased by a debt collector. Do I have to repay this? I live in Texas and am just getting back on my feet.

While you were in, the bankruptcy laws changed so that you can no longer get out of your credit card debt by going through bankruptcy. So you should try to negotiate this with the card company yourself of through an attorney or a reputable debt management company.

The statute of limitations for suit on a debt in Texas is 4 years.
