Defamation of Character

A neighbor is currently involved in a child custody battle with her ex-husband. This man is coming to our neighborhood and attempting to demean my character by telling neighbors I am a child predator, and have attempted to have oral sex with his son.

This is not his first attempt to embarrass me and I would like to know what legal steps I have to stop his vicious and untrue verbal attacts.
