defendant rights in travis county

Hello, my dog bite a person about 2 yrs ago. The man and I went to mediation, i agreeed to pay him 200.00 and I havent yet, but a week ago I called him to meet him and pay him, and now i have recieved a letter for small claims court, I want to know what happens if I do not go to the court date, I have no problem paying him but now he will not return my calls, what are my options, and what exactly happens if I dont go to court.

If you don't go, he'll take a judgment against you that will be good for ten years or until paid, and it will be on your credit report for seven years.
