Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
Discrimination & Extorsion (I Think)
Started work at a federal facility under contract with the postal service on or about 12-6-01. I was told we would get paid in two weeks by the persons hiring the temporaries for the holidays. When I started I also asked my supervisor when we would get paid, needed conformation. He came back and stated not this Friday but the following Friday. That would have been 12-21-01 when we recieved our paycheck. After working for about 17 days I was told they were not going to pay us until the job was completed. They held my check, our checks for ransom. Is this not discrimination against a working class, called Temps and is it not what we call extorsion when they keep our checks and not pay us until the job was completed because they were afraid the personnel would not come back. This is not what I was told nor the other employees I had spoken to. It is everyones right to work or not to work without Employers doing things like what I have explained. Can you help me.

Re: Discrimination & Extorsion (I Think)
It's neither discrimination nor extortion. It is a violation of your employment contract. If you've not gotten paid, contact the Texas Workforce Commission. You might also contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission about a possible violation of the Federal Wage and Hour Law, since you were working in a federal facility.
