Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Engagement Ring

Recently I was engaged to a lady in Dallas. The engagement was broken off by her, but the engagement ring was not returned. The cost of the ring is $1000 and she payed an inital downpayment of $200, however, the balance is on my Zales credit card. I contacted her about returning the ring, but to no avail. What can I do given my current situation?

Re: Engagement Ring

Unless you had an agreement to the contrary, I assume the ring was a gift. If this is correct, you are not entitled to get the ring back. Doesn't seem fair, but she probably gets the ring and you get the payments. This response does not contsitute a client/attorney relationship and is my opinion only.

Re: Engagement Ring

Legally the ring belongs to her. A gift, once given, may not be retaken.

I guess I would make friends with her and ask her to do the right thing morally.
