Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Feeding Stray Cat - Am I responsible for cat now?

My young boys have been giving water and food to a stray cat for the past week or so that has been hanging around outside my house. Today a neighbory came over and told us that ''OUR CAT'' dug up his garden and he wants $700 to fix the garden or he will sue us. I said it is not our cat, but he insists that by feeding it even once, we are now responsible for it. He also wants the cat hauled off and I told him to go ahead, it's very friendly and easy to catch - he said for us to and I said, ''But it is NOT OUR CAT.''

Is he right? Am I responsible for his garden damage, and how do I even know this cat did this damage to his garden? It's a little kitty... sounds like $700 would have taken a plow to do.

Make sure your insurance company knows that it's a stray that's been hanging around, rather than a cat you bought.
