Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

How to file a suit in court

I wish to sue my former employer for wrongfull temination of my employment. Since I can not afford an attorney's fees, I wish to bring this suit myself.

I need to know the procedures for doing this including any forms and/or other documents I need to prepare and how to file them.

Here are the web sites for the U.S. District Courts where you can acquire the local and federal rules:

http://www.txnd.uscourts.gov [Northern District]

http://www.txsd.uscourts.gov [Southern District]

http://www.txwd.uscourts.gov [Western District]

http://www.txed.uscourts.gov [Eastern District]

These rules will give you the requirements for filing lawsuits in Federal Courts in Texas.

Here is where you can go to find the Federal Statutes. The titles that you most likely will want to search are under Title 42.

Search for actions based upon discrimination because of race, religion, national origin, sex, and age.

Texas is a employment at will state, meaning that an employer can hire and fire without having to have an excuse (subject to the Federal discrimination statutes cited above). A small exception has been created in instances such as where an employee is fired for refusal to engage in a unlawful act.

Here is a web site where you can do additional legal research, and find some forms:

Good Luck!
