Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

I have a friend who was driving his girlfiend's car and they got in accident. The girlfriend told the police she was driving as well as the insurance company. They went through arbitration and found the other driver at fault. So, my friend and GF are not on the hook for anything but the deposit ($1000) to fix her car. However, the girlfriend's parents (they own the car) are threatening to sue my friend for the $1000. They claim they will use a company lawyer and have the girlfriend admit she lied on the police report to put my friend on the hook. What would the reproductions be for my friend and the girlfriend if they do indeed hire the lawyer. Is this just empty threats or should my friend be worried about insurance fraud?

Yes, it's a real threat. Your "friend"should worry about going to the penitentiary. Even more importantly, he should re-assess his moral outlook, because the one he has is deeply flawed. He should come clean to the parents and the insurance company and get a part time job to pay the $1,000.00.
