Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
A friend of mine moved into an apartment and took over the rent of the lease holder that moved out. He isnt on the lease and the girl who signed the lease moved out of town. He was trying to help her out and when the apartment manager found out the lease holder had illegally sublet the place they evicted the occupant. Now the lease holder is threatening to sue my friend for the remainder of the rent. Can the lease holders case hold up in court since it was an illegal sublet?

Number one, the apartment manager is an idiot.
Number two, an illegal contract (subletting an apartment when the lease says that no subletting is allowed) isn't enforceable.
