Friend Unwilling to Pay

Last April 2002, I had to move out of state for a family crisis. A coworker who I have known for a couple of years agreed to buy a doll collection and 3 oak curio cabinets from me for his wife. We discussed a price and he came and looked at it and because of my circumstances I agreed to take a reduced price of $7500.00. The collection was worth more than twice that but I was willing to take this so that I did not have to break up the collection or move the items with me. He did say that he was expecting a large amount of money but it would take a few months. It has been over 16 months and he has only given me $60.00. I have moved back to the town where he lives and he is still saying that the money is coming. Two weeks ago he said he would have the money and he went out of town to get it. He has moved to another town and I haven't heard from him.I do know where he moved to. What can I do to resolve this? We have an oral agreement and lots of people know how he has handled this. Is there anything I can do to within the legal system to get my money? Help!!!!

You are going to have to sue him to either get your property back or get a judgment that he owes you money. That's really not something you can easily do yourself, although not impossible.

I recommend speaking with a local lawyer about the problem.
