Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Helping a family in need

I was helping an elderly couple that are disabled and there kids would not help them and I lived across the street and the lady gave me three checks that she wrote out 1.100.00 2. 200.00 3. 300.00 and she also bought me a refrigerator because mine had gone out and I told her not to and she said that I am not supposed to tell her what to do with her money. Now that I have gotten sick and cannot take care of them anymore the kids are trying to take me to court saying that I stold 1000.00's of dollars from there family. Can they do this. And what kind of documentation would I need? I am a very caring person but think that I should have never been so nice as to help. I have never stole anything. Please help if you can.

Yes, they can do this. When the authorities come to investigate, refer them to the elderly couple across the street to verify your side of it.

You don't have to prove innocence. It's up to the accuser to prove guilt.
