When a lawnmower picks up an object and breaks a neighbor"s window, is the operator legally responsible for repair? the object was a co2 cartridge that noone is sure who had it and threw it down.

Generally, yes, you are responsible for the window, even if you didn't know about the CO2 cartridge. Ask him if he has a preference as to who replaces the window. Ask him if he'd like for YOU to get a couple of estimates.
