Is it legal to post someones picture on the internet without their knowledge or permission?

In general, it is not permissible publicly to post someone's picture anywhere without their permission. This is likely to be viewed as an invasion of privacy. In particular, if the site is a commercial one, then permission must be obtained or someone may arguably have a cause of action for money damages.
