Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Medical records confidentiality

I went for help to a medical facility on June 2000. This was for an attempted suicide. I found out later that one of its employees, who worked in the suicide hotline, had given my personal information, including my reason for the visit to one of my co-workers. The clinic employee realized that my employer was the same as his now-wife's. He immediately contacted her and gave her all of my confidential information. She then told other co-workers, supervisors, and others. My work situation became unbearable, so I eventually resigned. Did this man break any laws? If so, which ones? What should my action plan be?

Thank you very much.

Re: Medical records confidentiality

The clinic an its employee violated your right of confidentiality and would be liable for your damages. Your damages would depend upon the circumstance of losing your job plus mental anguish. Contact a lawyer in your area to pursue your claims.
