Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Modifying an agreed upon verbal contract after transfer

A couple are dating. The guys agrees to sell a pair of speakers to the girl for $10 even though he knows he can sell them elsewhere for $20 but he has feelings for her so he drops the price. He gives her the speakers before payment on good faith. They break up, she gives him 10 but he now wants 20 because he no longer has feelings for her. The contract was entirely verbal but he stated in front of 3 people other than her the modifications to the contract and why he decided to modify it. Does she owe him another 10? If she has a case what laws or cases can be used to prove this?

This is a good question for a law school exam and maybe a student in contracts will address it. I really have more to do than respond to a $10 contract dispute.
