Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
Can Neighbors decide the fate of my 3 dogs??
we live in Richardson, TX and 3 neighbors on our street have filed a complaint against us with animal control and we had to turn our dogs over to them until our hearing on May 4th, they are trying to say that our dogs are vicious.
the man at the shelter said they filed the complaint, dropped it and then re-filed it again. we are the only african american family on the street. our landlord came over because they were leaving anonymous messages on their phone so they came over, met our dogs and realized they were sweet and genlte and told the neighbors to leave us alone. They said it's the first time they have ever rented the house to a black family.
these people have been nothing but ugly to us since we moved in. their son sprayed bug spray in our dogs eyes and we did nothing, we didn't even ask for compensation for our vet bill. we have tried to get along with these people, we try not to bother anyone, we just want to left alone. do we have ANY rights in this matter? this has been both mentally stressful and physically stressful for me, I have crippling arthritis and having to go to the shelter every evening has taken it's toll on me and my family. we have a mentally handicapped child and ever since the dogs left she cries.

Re: Can Neighbors decide the fate of my 3 dogs??
You do have rights. If your dogs have been a nuisance, then your neighbors can file a complaint. If they are filing frivolous complaints, then you may have a cause of action against them for harassment. You should discuss this with an attorney.
