Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
Obtaining Information about Investigation
Hello, I have been under investigation for the last 3+years but I did nothing to warrant the investigation and now the Police have stopped slandering me around town. I want to know how I can get my hands on the names of the Detectives and any information about this investigation. I know that I could get a lot of information by asking around at the places that I know they have been but I want to get the documentation, statements and whatever else they might have. A rumor was started and was exponentially exaggerated at a former job. The Police got involved and further fueled the hunt to get me. It involved alleged theft on my part but this never happened. This did not stop them from following me to law school and setting in motion most unpleasant circumstances that led to me leaving law school after just two months. They followed me around town to every single retail establishment I frequented and told them I was a thief. I know now that they have made their rounds telling these people that I have done nothing wrong but I have three years of hell and a still tarnished reputation. I want to sue the city and all the Detectives involved. How feasible is this?

Re: Obtaining Information about Investigation
I would have to research your chances of winning and collecting a damage award, but you can make a public records request for your file. I believe you can find out about public records requests from the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.
