Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Obtaining judgement information

Several years ago(aprox. 8), a credit card company filed a judgement against myself and my wife. This judgement has not shown up in our credit reports. We are interested in obtaining a home equity loan for improvements to our house, but before we proceed we need to know if this judgement is still in effect How do we personally go about finding this our before the loan process begins? Are there internet sources for this information? Please advise.

Re: Obtaining judgement information

A Texas judgment is good for 10 years. It can be revived for another 10, and continued that way so it's valid for as long as someone wants to track it.

If it hasn't shown up on a credit report, then perhaps it was never entered into the system. There's really no way to check, other than ordering a copy of your credit report from every credit reporting agency. The lenders usually look to at least one of the three major agencies.
