Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

I paid for the car-- he won't give me the title

When I was in perfect health and before my ex-fiancee broke off our engagement, he verbally agreed to sign the car title over to me when I paid it off. The car is now worth over $12K. I paid for the car in September and he still refuses to sign over the title because he claims I ''stole'' some of his things in August when I moved out of the house we bought together the year before. Several times I have tried to resolve this, but his list of missing property and economical hardships I caused him keeps growing longer each time we speak. His accusations are completely false. I have only the keys (mute point since he has since changed the locks) and garage door opener which I will return to him when I receive the signed title. I have to get the car inspected and registered in December. Also, he keeps threatening to take me to small claims court to recover his missing property which might be worth $300. I'm on disability recovering from cancer and a bone marrow transplant and his behavior and threats are causing me considerable emotional distress. Since he will not voluntarily give me the title, what are my next options?

You have two options. The first is to hire an attorney and sue your ex for the title and damages for breach of contract. The second is to give the car back since it's still in his name, and you can't get it inspected without clear title.

I'd go for the first!
