Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
Property Seizure
My husband (boyfriend at the time)recently went through financial difficulties. He moved out of his apartment and a friend offered to store his furniture and personal belongings in her garage. She also let him use a car that was not in use. They made a ''deal'' that he would pay for the car when he had the money and she would give him the title. After about a month, they had a dispute over an issue that was speedily taken care of. She in turn seemed to need the money for the car immediately. He was not able to pay it. She in turn sold his furniture without his knowledge or approval. When he went to retrieve his personal items she called the police and put a restraining order on him. She has now threatened to burn it all if we contact her again. My husband has receipts for most of his belongings proving they belong to him. What legal right do we have? What can we do to get his belongings back legally? Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.

Re: Property Seizure
He may have claims of conversion and unjust enrichment. He should seek legal counsel to pursue recovery of his property if he thinks it's worth it.
Re: Property Seizure
He needs to contact a lawyer in the county where the property is located, concerning a lawsuit for conversion of his property. "Conversion" is the legal term for refusing to return property when demanded to do so.
