Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Can I recover my property loss of items stolen from police evidence room?

Not sure if posted under correct topic??In 2002 I had three firearms stolen from police the evidence room during a break in. The thief was caught but they never recovered my property. I was told that when the thief went to trial he would be ordered restitution and that is how I was to recover my loss. Well he was not ordered restitution because he was sentenced to jail time. I am basically being told sorry for your loss. The value of the three firearms totaled $2500. I would think that the police station would have insurance that would take care of this ? Does this seem right am I just out $2500.

I think you have missed the statute of limitations to make an insurance claim. The fact that they strung you along with hope of restitution doesn't toll the SOL. Check me out on this in case I'm wrong.
