Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas
how do i respond to a civil summons lawsuit? Was served about five this morning. Ex-friend's ex-wife is claiming that property he sold to us was hers and is suing to get it back. Involves several large pieces of equipment, such as dozers/ loaders etc. We no longer have the equipment. What do i do?

You have a defense if you didn't know the property was stolen. You should check with your insurance carriers (homeowners, business, E&O) to see if you have coverage. At any rate, you should hire counsel to file an answer to the lawsuit immediately, as you have very short timelines to answer the suit. If you fail to answer within the timeline, you lose the suit, even if you had a defense.
