Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

what is slander

My son dated a girl for about 8 months during this time the mother of the girl became vicious. spreading rumors about my family. My son did break up with the girl.Tonight at my daughters softball practice the father of the girl came up to my son and threatened him. Her father states that my sons friends are teasing his daughter. My son simply said I dont know what you are talking about. My son sits in the car at the practice to avoid them. however the father waits until my back is turned and walks up to my car and starts making threats that if his friends doesnt stop that my son wouldnt like the end result. I feel my name has been ruined due to her vicious lies to people of our community. Is there anything we can do to put a stop to this? I realize this may sound a bit childish but it is effecting my family, my daughter who is 11 cries because of this. Any information you give would greatly be appreciated.

Re: what is slander

Slander is the verbal spreading of false and defamatory information. If the father is making threats of physical violence against your son, that should be reported to the police.
