Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Stay with him or be exposed?

I have been trying to leave a verbally/physically abusive relationship for some months. The problem is I wrote my boyfriend a detailed letter about some very personal issues I am dealing with. If I leave him, he says he will share this letter with everyone. Is this within the scope of the law? Do I have to stay with him or be exposed?

Re: Stay with him or be exposed?

I am sorry for your situation and, without knowing all your circumstances, would encourage you to consider very seriously leaving this situation in spite of what you fear he might do with your personal revelations to him. Unfortunately, there is little you can do legally to stop him from saying anything he wants that is truthful or a matter of opinion, and even if he makes false statements it is very difficult to collect damages in such instances and, of course, the harm is essentially done. Whether you stay or go he can do what you fear, and I would urge you not to stay with someone on this basis alone.
