Former supervisor disparaging my name

A friend of mine is now working where I used to work. Someone asked whether anyone had heard from me in a while recently. One person said they thought I was working at such and such hospital now. My former supervisor said ''That surprises me. She is not employable.''

Nuclear medicine technology is a small community. Word gets around. If he is saying things like that about me, that could harm my ability to get a job. It is probably not the first lie he's told about me. Apparently, he has made up numerous lies and is telling them to the current crew there--not all the lies are specifically about me.

Can I do anything about this?

If you could prove damages, you might be able to do something about it. "Apparently", "could harm" and "probably" is not the type of language that supports a finding of slander - particularly when you are obviously gainfully employed.
