I was told Texas is a ''at will'' state.

What exactly does this defenition mean in term of employment in the privat sector?

Essentially, it means that an employer can terminate a person's employment, "at will," unless there is an employment contract in force. It also means that a person can quit work, "at will."

Mr. Williamson is correct. You and your employer are free to change the status quo, unless an improper motivation can be proven.
