Legal Question in Health Care Law in Texas
My former dr has closed her practice & her patients documents are being handled by a private firm for distribution. The firm in question, requested a fee to transfer the records. I paid the fee & was notified that my new dr wanted the records to be transferred to the patients & not to her office.
The firm in question which is handling the drs. records mailed MY PERSONAL MEDICAL INFORMATION to my employer's address & my name wasn't even on the envelope as the addressee.
Is this grounds for a lawsuit?

In 1996, the United States Congress enacted the HIPAA, which stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. This law protects the medical records of patients by keeping them secure and private. In order to understand this law better, you should discuss this with an attorney as well as the different types of HIPAA violations and their corresponding minimum and maximum penalties.
