Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

Trying to change status

I've have had a 0-1 visa in the United states for at least 7 years. Over the summer I got married to an American citizen and I need to know how to change my status from the 0-1 classification to a green card. I would like to do this over the computer with an online form. Also I might need to go out of the country within a year for a tour to China with our ballet company. What should I do about that? Thanks, Andre

Re: Trying to change status

Although you can get forms online at the INS' website and fill them out, you can't file electronically from your computer like you might to do when you file your taxes. It's not that simple. And a personal interview at the local INS office with your wife is required in every case. If you don't want to hire a lawyer, I would recommend that you visit your local district INS office and pick up the required form packet for filing an adjustment of status case when married to US citizen (I-485, I-130, G-325A for you and for your wife, I-765, I-864 and I-131 for advance parole). You will see what supporting documentation is required and how the district office wants you to submit it, either in person or by mail.
