Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

Changing name

I'm a foreign born green card holder. I was born in Hong Kong and holds a Hong Kong passport. My legal name appears in my HK passport, driving license, and green card is an English phonetic translation of my Chinese name. However, I use the English name ''Samuel'' everywhere else. I have asked to add ''Samuel'' as my other name when I applied for permanent residency but ultimately ''Samuel'' was not shown on my green card. I'm a technical author and have published many papers under the name ''Samuel''. Therefore, I really want to add ''Samuel'' in my legal name used in the States. Can you tell me how I can do it? Do I also need to change my name in my HK passport as well? If possible, I hope that I don't need to do that as I don't see the need.

Re: Changing name

Probably the easiest and cleanest course would be to file a petition in district court for change of name of an adult. That order should then be attached to a petition for revision of the green card. There is no legal reason to change your passport, except that you may encounter difficulty at customs when traveling. I would recommend that you always carry a copy of the order when traveling.
