Divorce after pernament residency

My husband and I have been married for 2 1/2 years, dated for 3 months before that, I was working here on a visa, then--name removed--sponsored me for my green card, just got it last month and it's for 10 years, but my husband and I arent getting along at all since in our fourth month of marriage,--name removed--always threating me with divorce, or telling me to get out from his house, we havent been sexually active for exactly 1 year (10/29/06)was the last time, my question to you is, how long should I wait before I can divorce him, we are not happy together, I dont know what to do, should we just get a seperation now and divorce at a later time, or it does it even matter since I already have my GC for 10 yrs, please help!

The green card that you received from your employer is permanent. In ten years you have to renew it, but it is a formality.

Apparently your husband did not even petition a green card for you.

In order to fully protect your employment green card, you need to remain with this employer for a minimum of one year, after which you can change employment.

You do not need this marriage to protect your status. When you decide to leave him, consult with and hire an attorney first, in order to protect yourself. It would also be a good idea to retain an attorney with family law and immigration law experience.
