Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

Green Card Expired

My green card expired in April 2006. I was suppose to file to become a US citizen before it expired, but I lost track of time. What do I need to do now to become a US citizen since the green card has expired?

Re: Green Card Expired

Just because the green card has expired it does not mean that your Lawful Permanent Residence (green card) Status in the U.S. has expired. If you need to travel, you can get an I-551 stamp in your passport from the CIS or you can do an I-90 Form to get a new green card. You can apply for Naturalization at any time. You do not need to have an unexpired green card to apply to be a Citizen.
