Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas
Green Card for someone with PhD degree
My husband and I came to US as students 5 years ago. I have my H1B visa now, which I have had through my employer and my husband has recently gotten his PhD degree. His F1 visa expired in Dec 2007, but he has a valid Employment Authorization Card, given for a year of optional practical training opportunity.
A friend of my husband told him that a person with a PhD degree can directly apply for a green card without having to have an employer sponsor him. Is it true? If so, we don't know where to start. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks,
Eylem

Re: Green Card for someone with PhD degree
Hire an immigration lawyer. The PhD alone is not enough, however, he may have sufficient credentials to apply without an employer -- there are numerous requirements for this category.
