Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas
Greencard to citizenship
I recently applied to get naturalized as a citizen. And I was interveiwed and passed my interveiw, but my case is still pending due to some more background check, however my greencard expires in sept. Please advise on what I should do to attain citizenship? or else what can I do, should I reapply for greencard renewal?
I applied with my family, but my wife and daughter got their citizenship and my son and myslef got held back. What would be the reason for this hold back. Me and my son have no criminal background.

Re: Greencard to citizenship
Just to be on the safe side - go ahead and apply for a renewal -- your status doesn't expire, only the card. It is impossible to speculate as to the delay on your citizenship. You have your attorney inquire as to the delay.
Re: Greencard to citizenship
Typically, the delays have been due to the name checks not being completed. There's no way to determine when the name checks will clear, but it's best to stay on top of situation by inquiring every now and then with the immigration service. In some cases, it's taken a year or more for the name checks to clear, even in cases where the individual did not have a criminal background. Please let me know if you have any follow up questions. Good luck!
