Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas
h4 and royalties
I am a Canadian citizen with a H4 visa. I
was told I cannot sign a contract with a
book publishing company in the US since I
am not allowed to receive compensation.
Can I physically go to Canada and sign a
contract with a US company while I am
there? If not, can I sign a contract with a
Canadian company while I am in Canada?

Re: h4 and royalties
Under an H4 visa, you cannot be employed. If you wrote a book, and sold the book, and received money for that book, then you are not employed. If a company pays you to write books, then you are employed. You should contact an immigration attorney directly for consultation and advice as to whether in your particular situation, you can be compensated without violating your visa.
You may email be directly if you wish.
