Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas
Immigration Law for Victims of Domestic Violence
Hello.
A friend of mine, who lives in Texas, was married to a U.S. citizen for 6 months, but her marriage was terminated by a divorce related to domestic violence and abuse. She is currently petitioning to obtain a status of a lawful permanent resident under Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Her case is already in process. However, while it may take up to a year to resolve her case, her work visa will expire on January 1, 2007 and she will not have any source of income for the period between her visa expiration and her case ruling. Does United States Immigration Law provide for any temporary solution for victims of domestic abuse, waiting for their case resolution, but whose work visa is about to expire?
She would greatly appreciate any advice you can give in her situation. Thanks in advance.

Re: Immigration Law for Victims of Domestic Violence
Since her VAWA is pending, she can apply to renew her work visa. She can review the provisions of the regulations at the USCIS website, or retain an attorney to assist her.
