Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

The INS lost my green card!

I renewed my green card in 10/02, getting a stamp in my passport while it processed. In 10/03, the Dallas INS says they have neither my card nor my paperwork!! Six months later they still know nothing, will not renew my passort stamp, and are not helping me out of this state of limbo!

I have had a green card with no problems since the early 1970s. I have great concerns for this breech of security. If they cannot find my paperwork, where is it? I cannot leave and re-enter the country. If I lose my job, I cannot get another one. My name and information may be used by terrorists for all I know.

How do I rectify this? To whom do I speak? I need help!

Re: The INS lost my green card!

Depending upon your situation, you may want to either file a Freedom of Information Act request, or you might consider filing for citizenship. I suggest that you consult with an attorney first before doing either. If you would like to set an appointment, please contact me by telephone or email.

My best wishes.
