passport and old crime

1993 my kids dad was put on probation for aggravated assault w/a deadly weapon.he had got passport but on his way back from Mex.he was held in dallas tx. where they detained his passport.a letter was given to him saying he had been convicted for agg.assault causing serious bodily injury.when he came back yo home town he got his legal papers from when he was put on probation which states agg. assault w/ deadly weapon what can be done.

I am not sure what question you are asking. It appears that you are saying that he was not removed/deported at the conclusion of the criminal case, and his passport was returned. You do not state what his immigration status was at the time of the arrest. If he was not an LPR, and he wants to adjust status, he needs to be extremely careful. I advise that he not discuss or reveal this information to anyone, and to consult with an immigration attorney, with a complete copy of his documents, to determine if he has any options.
