Resident alien card expired

Hi,my question is about my resident card it has expired and it's been two to three years since. I just found out it was expired because my purse had been stolen .I've had it since I was seven I am now 27 and married with 6 children, all my children are u.s citizens as well as my husband and both my mother and step-father, am I at risk for deportation for not updating it? Also am I allowed to work here in the United States if i don't have one? I would really appreciate it if you answered my question. Thank You!

Re: Resident alien card expired

First of all, don't panic! You will not be deported. You must file form I-90 to renew your card. But please be careful where you send it, because there are many uses to that form.

Second, yes you do need to have a valid card for employment in the U.S., but as soon as you apply for the renewal, you can get temporary proof of permanent residency by a stamp in your passport. Finally, why don't you think about applying for naturalization ? If you meet all the other eligibility requirements, you can become a U.S. citizen and never have to worry about being deported again. If you would like additional information on this subject, you can call me at 281-920-9015. I'll be happy to answer your questions.
