Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

Student-Marriage-Greencard

I was an International student who just got married with a U.S. citizen. Now, I want to know when can start the procedure to apply for my Green Card? How long does it take to get a green card? And while I awaiting for my green card, can I work?

Re: Student-Marriage-Greencard

It will take approximately 7 months after filing to get scheduled for the marriage interview.

A temporary work permit is issued 3 months after filing for the green card.

You can start the process as soon as you get married. Your husband will have to submit a visa petition on your behalf and you will be able to concurrently file your adjustment of status application. You can apply for work authorization concurrently as well. It will take approximately anywhere from 6 months to a year to complete the process.
